Biratnagar Metropolitan City is one of the 17 municipalities in Morang District of Koshi Province. As per the 2021 census, the metropolitan city has a total population of 243,927, comprising 121,954 males (50.0%) and 121,973 females (50.0%), with a literacy rate of 83.61%. Spanning 77.0 square kilometers, Biratnagar Metropolitan City exhibits the population density of 3,168 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 19 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Biratnagar has 176 schools. Of these, 106 are private and 59 are public. The breakdown includes 98 pre-schools, 165 basic schools, and 105 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 47 offer +2 programs.
