SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Surkhet, situated in the peaceful surroundings of Birendranagar-4, Kalagaun, Surkhet, is a non-profit educational institution run under the umbrella of SOS Kinderdorf International. Established in 1989 alongside SOS Children’s Village Surkhet, the school was founded to provide quality education to children who lost parental care in districts such as Dailekh, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Jumla, Humla, and Kalikot, as well as to children from the local community.
From its inception as a small primary school, it has grown into a full-fledged secondary and higher secondary institution, now offering Science stream at the +2 level. The school serves a diverse student community, including children from SOS Children’s Village Surkhet, scholarship recipients from the Family Strengthening Program, children from marginalized families, staff children, and fee-paying students. Guided by the principle, “All the children of the world are our children,” SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Surkhet follows the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) and SOS International’s child protection policies, ensuring a nurturing environment where every child’s unique potential is valued.
With a commitment to accessible, affordable, and high-quality education, the school continues to be a trusted pillar of learning in the region, empowering students with knowledge, skills, and values to thrive in life.
