About Us

The historical background of Shree Galkot Secondary School dates back to 2003 BS, when the first attempts to teach Sanskrit, ritual methods, and grammar of the Nepali language began in the area. Education enthusiasts, including Pandit Padma Pani Sharma, Pandit Shiva Prasad Dhakal, Pandit Ganesh Dutt Gautam, Raja Bharat Bam Malla, Mukhiya Khadga Singh Khatri, Mukhiya Vishnu Prasad Pandey, Ganesh Kumar Shrestha, and Kuldutt Upreti, took the initiative to establish "Gaumukhi Vidhyashram" under a pipal tree at Haatiya Bazaar, Ward No. 4, Rajara, as well as at the Mukhiya's residence. At that time, general Sanskrit education, ritual methods, Vedas, Chandi, Puranas, Rudri, and other subjects were taught there.

In 2004 BS, following the advice of prominent figures from the "Jayatu Sanskritam" movement, such as Shri Bhadra Sharma, Rajeshwar Devkota, Kamal Raj Regmi, and Gopal Vaidya, the school was granted official status. Narishwar Sharma Upadhyay was brought from Nigalpani, Palpa, to teach Nepali grammar and serve as the head teacher, while Krishna Prasad Sharma, a writer for Raja Bharat Bam, was recruited as the mathematics teacher.

In 2005 BS, with the recommendation of the Galkot Royal Palace, approval was obtained from the School Inspector Division Office in Kapilvastu, leading to the school's rebranding as "Gaumukhi Pathashala." The school was then relocated to its current site in Bohora's Thanti, where Galkot Secondary School now stands. Thus, 2005 BS is recognized as the official establishment year of the school.

With support from the local community, essential materials and salaries were arranged, enabling the school to continuously improve its standards. In 2017 BS, it was upgraded to "Gaumukhi Middle School," and due to a growing interest in education among local residents, it was further elevated to "Gaumukhi High School" in 2022 BS.

A merger occurred between Araniko Lower Secondary School in the neighboring village of Harichaur and Gaumukhi High School in Hatiya village. These two schools operated as "Galkot Secondary School" in Majhuwa Field, Ward No. 9 of Harichaur Village Panchayat from 2026 BS to 2027 BS. Subsequently, following guidance from the District Education Office in Baglung, Galkot Secondary School continued to operate in Hatiya, while Araniko Middle School remained in Harichaur under the name "Prithvi Namuna School."

In an effort to further advance educational offerings, Galkot Secondary School received affiliation from the Higher Secondary Education Board in 2053 BS, allowing it to offer streams in Education, Humanities, and Commerce. Later, during the academic session of 2068 BS, a Science stream was also introduced.

From 2060 BS, a special education program for deaf and speech-impaired students was launched, with instruction conducted in sign language; however, this program has been temporarily suspended due to various challenges.

Beginning in 2070 BS, the school also started vocational and technical classes in Crop Science. Currently, instruction is provided for students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. In 2079 BS, the school launched the "Earn While You Learn" program targeting technical education.

Since 2074 BS, Galkot Secondary School has been implementing the Model School Development Program. So far, seven buildings have been completed, including four academic buildings, one administrative building, and two additional structures.

For educational management, classrooms, furniture, and educational and sports materials have been organized for early childhood classes. Additionally, free bus transportation has been arranged for students from the service area. Classes from Grade 1 to Grade 12 are conducted in both Nepali and English mediums.
