Established in 2048 B.S. (1991 A.D.), Ramdarsh Sarvodaya Secondary School is a pioneering educational institution located in the remote hilly region of Khotang district, Koshi Province. Founded during a time when access to English-medium and quality education in the region was nearly unattainable for average-income families, the school emerged from the vision and commitment of local intellectuals and retired British Gurkha soldiers. What began as a small initiative to educate their own children has now evolved into one of the model schools in the district.
The school was started through community effort with English teachers hired from Darjeeling, and officially began its academic journey in Baisakh 2048 B.S. In 2051 B.S., a new phase of growth was marked by the involvement of scholars from Diktel Multiple Campus, who contributed both to higher education and the boarding school. Their dual commitment significantly uplifted the academic standard of the school.
A landmark achievement came in 2057 B.S. when the British government selected the school to receive support for infrastructure development. With significant ownership by ex-Gurkha personnel, the school was awarded a two-storied, six-roomed model building, which was inaugurated on Jestha 19, 2058 B.S. This milestone elevated public trust, leading to a rise in student enrollment, improved facilities, and academic excellence.
Over the years, the school has maintained a remarkable track record. With 27 batches of SLC/SEE graduates, it boasts a 100% pass rate, with no student scoring below Second Division or Grade B+. Its alumni have excelled in various fields, including medicine, engineering, civil service, aviation, arts, and military service, both nationally and internationally.
Although the school was the first in the district to initiate the +2 Science stream, it currently offers Grades 11 and 12 in the Management stream, which has consistently produced 100% pass rates across 17 batches. The school continues to adapt and expand its offerings based on student needs and regional context.
Today, Ramdarsh Sarvodaya Secondary School serves more than 1,400 students from Pre-Nursery to Grade 12, supported by over 70 qualified and dedicated teachers and staff members. With technology-friendly classrooms, a student-centered learning environment, and a strong focus on both academics and values, the school remains committed to providing quality, child-friendly education that fosters holistic development.
