About Us

Chautara Secondary School, Dandakharka, was established in 2045 BS. This school, located in Ward No. 2 of the former Mulkharka Village Municipality, appears to have been named after the chaurtaras (resting shelters) built by the general public in the area called Dandakharka for travelers to rest and relieve fatigue. Historically, the area where the school building now stands was frequently used by porters (batuwas), who, carrying loads of salt from Katari, would set down their burdens there.

The school's foundation was initiated when its founding chairperson, Dil Bahadur Khatri, donated 2 ropani of land. During the establishment phase, there was a dispute over whether to operate the school in Dandakharka or Aiselukharka. A school named Chaurtara Primary School was already running in Aiselukharka. Because having two schools with the same name in the same ward was problematic, one of them was renamed. Following this, the development of Chautara Secondary School progressed rapidly.

From its founding, the school struggled but persisted. It operated classes through grade 5 until 2052 BS. Under the leadership of founder-chairperson Dil Bahadur Khatri, class 6 was introduced, eventually leading to class 8. Continuing his pioneering role in upgrading the school, Khatri's initiative led to the start of class 9 in 2065 BS and class 10 in 2066 BS.

Leading in terms of educational quality, the school began class 11 in 2078 BS. It was also granted affiliation by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to offer a Diploma in Computer Engineering. At the secondary level (grades 11 and 12), it offers the Science and Education streams.

Through the initiative of local residents who played a leading role in the school's establishment, the school now owns more than 33 ropani of land in its own name in Ward No. 5 of Sunkoshi Gaupalika.
