Chandra Namuna Secondary School, established on 14th Poush, 2013 B.S., is a public institution located in Ward No. 5 of Bode Barsain Municipality, Saptari District, within Koshi Province. Initially named Chandra High English School, it was inaugurated to make quality education accessible to all, regardless of social or economic status. Over time, it gained a reputation not just locally but also in neighboring districts and regions across the border. The school was once operated entirely free of charge and taught by a team of dedicated Indian educators in a peaceful and scholarly environment.
Recognizing its impactful role in the community, the school was declared a model school by the Government of Nepal in 2036 B.S. It continued to evolve, and in 2052 B.S., it received permanent approval to run the secondary level. In 2055 B.S., it initiated the +2 program, extending educational opportunities up to Grade 12.
Expanding further into technical education, the school launched a Computer Engineering stream (Grades 9–12) in 2072 B.S. and began offering Science at the higher secondary level (Grades 11–12) from 2080 B.S.. Since 2074 B.S., it has been operating as a Model School under the Ministry of Education, guided by the Model School Improvement Plan, focusing on enhancing infrastructure, digital integration, and academic quality.
As of the 2081 IEMIS report, the school has 1,303 enrolled students. The school premises cover about seven bigha, with additional open lands used for farming, gardens, and ponds. Despite earlier setbacks such as arson and natural threats from nearby rivers, the school has continuously rebuilt and advanced.
Chandra Namuna Secondary School remains committed to its mission of providing a nurturing academic environment that empowers students to become independent thinkers, responsible citizens, and capable leaders. The school embodies the motto "Education for Discipline and Excellence," focusing on all-around student development—academically, socially, and morally through modern pedagogy, skilled faculty, and robust infrastructure.
