The National Examination Board (NEB) located in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, is accepting applications for Research Grants for Masters, MPhil, and PhD levels for the fiscal year 2082/083.
Targeted at students pursuing higher education, the initiative aims to generate evidence-based insights into Nepal’s secondary education system.
According to a notice issued by the Board’s Research, Quality, and Governance Reform Division, the grants are specifically designated for researchers focusing on research related to the secondary level (examination reform, evaluation and quality measurement, result analysis, and problems identified from result analysis).

To be eligible, applicants must be Nepali citizens. Master’s students must have completed their second semester, while M.Phil students must have cleared their first semester. PhD candidates are required to have completed their formal registration.
Research Topics
The NEB is seeking proposals that address critical bottlenecks in the current education landscape. Key areas include:
- Examination Reform: Modernizing evaluation techniques.
- Quality Measurement: Assessing the standard of secondary education.
- Result Analysis: In-depth study of student performance and identifying challenges derived from recent data.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a Nepali citizen.
- For Master’s level: Must have passed the 1st and 2nd semesters.
- For M.Phil level: Must have passed the 1st semester.
- For PhD level: PhD registration must be completed.
4. Payment Process
- After submission of the draft report: 25%
- After submission of the final report: 75%
- The final report must be submitted by Asar 15, 2083 (for Master's level).
- Along with the final report, an Action Plan based on the findings/recommendations must be submitted in the format provided by the National Examination Board.
5. Application Format
- Application (Name, Address, Mobile Number, and Email are mandatory).
- The research proposal must be approved by the respective university.
- Information regarding current research progress must be provided (for PhD level only).
6. Required Documents
- Digital copies of academic certificates. For certificates from educational institutions outside Nepal, an equivalence certificate must also be submitted.
- PhD researchers must provide progress reports every 6 months.
Note:
- The Board’s evaluation committee will make all final decisions regarding this matter.
- Students who have already developed research tools and collected data are not eligible to participate in this program.
- To receive the grant, the applicant must not have received assistance from any other organization.
