Foreign Employment Descendant Scholarship for Academic Sessions 2082

The Secretariat of the Foreign Employment Board, the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, has announced the opening of applications for the Foreign Employment Descendant Scholarship program for the academic session 2082. 

This scholarship is intended for the children of workers who tragically lost their lives, suffered disabilities, or fell seriously ill while working abroad, and who had previously received full financial assistance from the Welfare Fund.

Eligible students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship by submitting their applications to their current educational institutions. The application must be completed using the format outlined in Schedule (1) of the Foreign Employment Descendant Scholarship Operation Procedure, 2080. The application submission deadline is the end of Kartik 2082 (Sunday, 16th November, 2025 )

1. Authority to Submit the Application:

Students should submit their applications in the format prescribed in Schedule 1 of the procedure to the school where they are currently studying by the end of Kartik 2082. Even if the student's permanent address is elsewhere, documents such as relationship verification and other required documents must be obtained from the Ward Office at their local level and submitted to the school where they are studying.

i. Required Documents for Students Already Receiving the Scholarship:

  1. An Application as per Schedule-1
  2. A copy of the worker's passport
  3. A recommendation from the school verifying the grade in which the candidate is studying.
  4. A copy of the student or guardian’s active bank account document (checkbook).

ii. Required Documents for Students Receiving the Scholarship for the First Time in FY 2082/83

  1. An application as per Schedule 1
  2. A copy of the worker's passport
  3. A recommendation from the school verifying the grade in which the candidate is studying.
  4. A copy of the student’s birth certificate
  5. A copy of the guardian’s citizenship certificate.
  6. A copy of the relationship certificate between the applicant, guardian, and worker.
  7. A copy of the student or guardian’s active bank account document (checkbook).

2. Target Group for the Scholarship/ Eligibility

  • Children of workers who had obtained labor approval, went abroad for foreign employment, and within the prescribed period, passed away, suffered disability, or illness, and received 100% financial assistance from the Foreign Employment Board.(100% financial assistance refers to receiving NPR 100,000 between 2065/7/18 to 2068/2/19, NPR 150,000 between 2068/2/20 to 2071/6/30, NPR 300,000 between 2071/6/31 to 2074/4/15, and NPR 700,000 from 2074/4/16  to 2081/07/07  and Rs 10,00,000 from 2082/08/08 to until the application deadline. Those who did not receive the full amount for death or disability compensation are not eligible for this scholarship.)
  • Children under 18 years of age studying in any community or institutional school in Nepal, from pre-primary or nursery level up to grade 12, can apply.
  • Only children of workers who received the financial assistance mentioned above by the end of Ashoj 2082 will be eligible for the 2082 academic year scholarship.

3. Scholarship Amount:

  • Annually, NPR 12,000 will be provided for students studying at the basic level and NPR 16,000 for those at the secondary level.
  • The scholarship amount will be provided as a lump sum directly through a bank account, only once per academic year for each student per grade. All eligible children of a worker can receive assistance.

4. Responsibilities of Students and Guardians:

  • After receiving the notice, study the procedure, prepare all the required documents, and submit the application to the relevant school.

5. Responsibilities of the School:

  • Disseminate information regarding the Foreign Employment Descendant Scholarship to all concerned students and guardians.
  • Provide the recommendation for the class in which the student is enrolled.
  • Compile the collected applications in the format of Schedule-2 and send them to the concerned local level by Mangsir 7, 2082.

6. Responsibilities of the Local Level:

  • As per Clause 7(5) of the Procedure for recommending the Foreign Employment Scholarship, arrange for the Education Committee’s decision.
  • Through the designated focal person at the local level, ensure entry via the Secretariat’s online system (Foreign Employment Welfare Information Management System—FEWIMS) by the end of Poush 2082.
