Tribhuvan University (TU), Office of the Rector, Research Directorate, Kirtipur has invited Research Proposals for the Thesis/Dissertation Grant Project to be operated from the available funds of the TU Research Endowment Fund (REF) for the fiscal year 2082/83.

Types of Research Projects 

  • Thesis/Dissertation Research (PhD)
  • Thesis/Dissertation Research (M.Phil.)
  • Thesis/Dissertation Research (Master's Level)

Detailed information regarding the types of research, proposal format, evaluation method, and other related matters, as per the Standards and Guidelines for Research Operation 2075 BS, is available on the TU website:  www.tu.edu.np. According to the aforementioned procedures, the research proposal, including its Digital Copy (e-copy), must be submitted to this Directorate by 4:00 PM on 2082/08/02.

Under the Thesis/Dissertation Grant Project, Master's level students in the semester system (third or fourth semester) or thesis-year students must have obtained an SGPA of at least 3.0 in the previous semester. M.Phil. students in the second semester or thesis year, and PhD students/scholars who were registered on or before 2081/82 shall be eligible.

For applying under the Thesis/Dissertation Grant Project, students/scholars currently studying or engaged in research work (thesis/dissertation) at the Master's level, or those enrolled in PhD/M.Phil. programs within TU bodies after obtaining prior approval from the University shall be considered eligible.

The research proposal submitted for this project must not have been submitted elsewhere. Proposals from individuals who have already utilized leave, study leave, or unpaid leave as Chief Researchers or researchers for research projects operated by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Dean's Office, or other TU bodies will not be considered valid.

Individuals who have already received a thesis/dissertation grant from other TU bodies will not be awarded this grant. For language subjects other than English (e.g., Nepali and other subjects), the research proposal must be written in the English language. It is also informed that research proposals will be considered invalid if they do not meet the criteria and procedures specified by the Research Directorate.

Required Documents 

  • 2 Copies of the Research Proposal and an e-copy on a Pen Drive.
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Student ID Card
  • Recommendation letter from the institution stating the candidate has not received any research grant for the fiscal year 2082/83.
  • Certified copy of the approval certificate of M.Phil. from TU and certification from the Dean/Department.
  • Recommendation letter from the Thesis Supervisor.
