KCC Exhibit 2025, organized by Kantipur City College (KCC) affiliated with Purbanchal University, began on August 01, 2025. The event was inaugurated by the Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Gurung stated that Nepal has fallen behind in the field of information technology and emphasized the importance of prioritizing the production and management of skilled IT professionals. He noted that many countries have already advanced rapidly in this sector, and Nepal must not delay further.
He said, “We must strengthen the production and expansion of our IT workforce. Many countries are ahead of us. We are already late, so attention must now be given to proper manpower management.”
Minister Gurung also highlighted the importance of promoting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, education, and public service delivery. “Tasks that used to take a month can now be completed in a day, and an hour’s work can be done in ten minutes. This speeds up service delivery and helps reduce corruption,” he explained.
More than 6,000 visitors participated in the exhibition on its first day. Over 40 student-led innovative projects were showcased at the event. The two-day exhibition has seen active participation from students, faculty, guardians, entrepreneurs, IT professionals, journalists, and the general public.

Special guest Dr. Rabindra Prasad Dhakal, Secretary of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), noted that compared to last year, the budget for NAST had been reduced, which has impacted research and innovation. He emphasized the need to make engineering education more innovation-oriented.
Other speakers included Ramesh Sharma Paudyal, Director General of the Department of Information Technology (DOIT), Sunaina Ghimire Pandey, President of CAN Federation, and Indra Kumar Shrestha, General Secretary of the Management Association of Nepal. They stressed that artificial intelligence and information technology must be used as transformative tools in society.

They also underscored the importance of providing institutional support for youth-led innovation, improving access to education and public services, and promoting digital transformation.
On the occasion, Minister Gurung directed Nepal Telecom (NTC) and the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to launch 5G services at the earliest. He stated, “4G should reach every household. Otherwise, the goal of digital governance will remain unfulfilled.”

He also pointed out the need to resolve network issues along highways and in tourist areas. Noting the lack of awareness about telecom services, he advised expanding services in education and health sectors and increasing public outreach.
KCC Exhibit 2025 has initiated important dialogue around information technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, and digital infrastructure. The event draws attention to the need for technology-friendly education, policies, and implementation strategies for Nepal’s digital future.
