As part of the Clinical Legal Education course, Kathmandu School of Law took BALLB 2nd year students on an educational visit to various prisons in the Kathmandu Valley and Kavre.
During the visit, students interacted with prison authorities, including police officers and administrative staff, as well as with the Naikes (leaders among prisoners). These conversations helped students understand the human rights aspects of prison life and learn how prisoners live within the system.
They also observed the living conditions of inmates and accused individuals, studied the overall prison infrastructure, and gained practical insights into how the justice system functions beyond the classroom.
This co-curricular activity was designed to strengthen students’ knowledge of human rights, access to justice, and the link between criminal law and psychology.
Through such experiential learning, future legal professionals are prepared to connect theory with practice and approach justice with empathy, knowledge, and integrity.
