Two Prestigious Tribhuvan University Institutions Receive QAA Accreditation from UGC Nepal

In a significant milestone for Nepal's higher education sector, Maharajgunj Nursing Campus and the Central Department of Education (both under Tribhuvan University) have been awarded the prestigious Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) certificate by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Nepal.

The UGC board made the decision to grant accreditation on December 23, 2025, with the official issuance taking place today, January 12, 2026 (2082/9/28 BS). The accreditation is valid until December 22, 2030, recognizing the institutions' commitment to maintaining high standards in governance, curriculum, research, infrastructure, student support, and overall academic excellence.

The QAA award ceremony was held at the UGC Hall, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, where representatives from the accredited institutions received their certificates. This event highlights the growing emphasis on quality assurance in Nepal's higher education landscape, as promoted by the UGC since 2007.

Profile of Accredited Institutions

Maharajgunj Nursing Campus, established in 1956 as Nepal's pioneering School of Nursing, is a leading institution affiliated with the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University. Relocated and renamed in 1985 with Japanese government support, it has built a strong legacy of excellence over six decades. The campus offers quality programs, including BSc Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNS) in various specializations, Bachelor in Midwifery Science, Master in Nursing, and PhD in Nursing. Known for modern facilities, well-equipped skill labs, strong clinical ties, and top academic performance, it attracts outstanding students nationwide. Recently awarded Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) by the University Grants Commission (valid until 2030), Maharajgunj Nursing Campus is dedicated to producing skilled, compassionate nursing and midwifery professionals to support universal health coverage and national health goals.

The Central Department of Education, the oldest among Tribhuvan University’s Central Departments, was established in 1956 as the College of Education to train qualified teachers for the nation. Located in the scenic Kirtipur campus, Kathmandu, near the university’s central office and operating under the Faculty of Education, it uniquely comprises 19 specialized departments, including Curriculum and Evaluation, English Language Education, Mathematics Education, Nepali Language Education, Science Education, ICT, Special Needs Education, Physical Education, and more. The department excels in teaching, research, curriculum development, and syllabus design, continuously introducing innovative programs such as semester systems at the master’s level, GIS courses, Computer Science in Mathematics Education, upcoming M.Ed. in ICT, and online/distance learning initiatives in subjects like English and Mathematics.

This accreditation not only enhances the credibility and international recognition of these institutions but also assures students, parents, employers, and partners of their quality and continuous improvement efforts.
