Tribhuvan University (TU) is set to confer academic degrees on 89,191 students, from bachelor’s to PhD level, today. A total of 16,380 students have applied to participate in the 51st convocation ceremony, which will be held at Dasharath Stadium.
The largest number of graduates and ceremony participants is from the Faculty of Management. During the last academic session, 43,610 students completed academic degrees ranging from bachelor’s to doctoral levels in management. Of them, 7,849 will attend the convocation ceremony. According to the Office of the Controller of Examinations, 16,463 students will be conferred degrees from the Faculty of Education, of whom 1,535 have applied to attend the ceremony.
Similarly, 14,851 students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, 7,464 from Science and Technology, 2,280 from Medical Education, 2,335 from Law, 1,463 from Engineering, 476 from Agriculture and Animal Science, and 245 from Forestry will be conferred degrees, said Information Officer Kaviraj Paudel.
Among the graduates, 152 students have earned PhD degrees. The highest number of PhD graduates, 43 each, are from the Faculties of Science and Technology and Humanities. This is followed by 30 from Education, 16 from Medical Sciences, five from Law, two from Engineering, and one from Management.
Only students who applied and paid the required fees will be allowed to participate in the convocation ceremony. The university has already distributed gowns and other ceremonial attire to eligible participants, Paudel said.
Students who obtained their academic degrees between Ashar 1, 2081 and the end of Jestha 2082 (mid-June 2024 to mid-June 2026) are being included in this convocation. Although 89,191 students are set to be conferred degrees, only 18.31 percent of eligible graduates expressed interest in attending the ceremony.
Last year, TU conferred degrees on 74,149 students, of whom around 14,000 attended the convocation ceremony. Compared to last year, the number of graduates has increased by 15,042 this time. TU charged a fee of Rs 1,500 for convocation attire, of which Rs 1,200 will be refunded after the ceremony, according to an official notice.
