Stakeholders Discuss on Integrating Insurance Education into School Curriculum

The Nepal Insurance Authority has held discussions with concerned stakeholders regarding the inclusion of insurance education content in school-level Social Studies textbooks.

During the discussion held on Saturday, at the Authority's central office, Chairman Janak Raj Sharma stated that it is necessary to incorporate subject matter regarding the necessity and importance of insurance in textbooks from the school level to develop it as an integral part of human life. He said, "It is essential to create awareness about insurance from a young age; insurance provides financial security for human life and property. It is necessary to have the information that life can be carried forward easily through insurance. This will expand the reach of insurance, reduce costs, minimize risks, and support the overall economic development of the country."

Yuvraj Poudel, Director General of the Curriculum Development Centre under the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, shared the view that insurance should be included in textbooks so that students can understand insurance during their school studies and can explain its importance to others after their education. Prof. Dr. Ram Krishna Tiwari, Executive Director of the Tribhuvan University Curriculum Development Centre and Chairperson of the Social Studies Subject Committee, urged relevant officials, subject experts, and writers to reflect insurance-related content while writing Social Studies textbooks and preparing exam papers.

According to the Authority, the program was organized with the aim of reaching a concrete conclusion regarding the inclusion of insurance education content during the revision and rewriting of Social Studies textbooks, which is a compulsory subject at the school level. Detailed discussions were held during the program regarding potential insurance education topics in the proposed curriculum for Classes 4 to 12 under the Social Studies stream.
