Sofan Western Academy has officially begun its academic journey in Dhangadhi, marking a significant step in expanding access to quality higher education in Sudurpaschim Province. The college is affiliated with Kathmandu University and has launched the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program in its first phase.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Dr. Uddhab Pyakurel, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Management at Kathmandu University, welcomed the initiative as a milestone for higher education in the region. He stated that the establishment of the academy enables students in Sudurpaschim to pursue education comparable to that available in Kathmandu without leaving their province.
College Director Sailesh Singh described Sofan Western Academy as a bridge between education and employment. He emphasized that the institution aims to foster an environment that promotes critical thinking and social awareness, contributing to the province's mental, social, and economic development through the integration of social work and psychology.
The event was attended by local education stakeholders, intellectuals, parents, and students. Participants expressed that the affiliation with Kathmandu University has opened new opportunities for students in the province to access high-quality education locally.
The academy plans to introduce additional programs in Management and Information Technology in the coming years. With experienced faculty, modern facilities, and interactive teaching approaches, Sofan Western Academy aims to establish itself as a model institution in Sudurpaschim Province.
