Due to the severe heat caused by hot winds known locally as 'Loo,' all schools within Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City have been ordered to close for one week.
The Education, Youth, and Sports Division of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan Municipality announced that schools will remain closed from Sunday, June 8, to Saturday, June 14, in response to the rising temperatures and increasing cases of heat-related illnesses among children.
Gorkha Bahadur Thapa, head of the Education, Youth, and Sports Division, stated that the city-level Disaster Management Committee convened and decided to shut all schools temporarily due to the adverse impact of the intense heat on students. Symptoms such as nausea, headaches, and fever have been reported among children as a result of the heatwave.
The division also noted that the closure period might be extended depending on the weather conditions. Other municipalities in the district are reportedly preparing to announce similar school closures as the heatwave continues.
Parents had earlier requested a temporary school closure to protect children's health. Medical professionals have advised avoiding outdoor activities during the daytime and urged guardians to ensure children stay well-hydrated amid the ongoing hot winds and heat.
