School Employees Urge Minister Pun to Address Their Problems

The Nepal School Employees Council (NSEC) has presented various demands to Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Mahabir Pun, including the need to retain community school employees in their posts.

The Council requested Minister Pun to address the long-standing problems of school employees based on the past agreement signed with previous governments.

Central President of the Council, Ganga Ram Tiwari, shared that Education Minister Pun assured them of addressing the problems by holding a discussion with them after the festival to find solutions. Minister Pun also urged the NSEC delegation not to expect too much from the incumbent government, as it has come with the main responsibility of holding elections.

Bagmati Province Committee President of the Council, Ram Sharan Phunyal, mentioned that they suggested to Minister Pun that the position of the school accountant having computer skills could be converted into a quota computer teacher position, taking into positive light his recent directive to make arrangements for a quota of computer teachers in every community school.

Despite a Supreme Court order on 23rd Magh 2067 that mandated the creation of a service law for school employees, their working conditions remain poor. Currently, school accountants are paid only Rs 15,000 per month, and office assistants get just Rs 10,000. Although a new School Education Bill aims to address these issues, it is currently unable to enact a law due to the dissolution of the House of Representatives.
