Nepal Sanskrit University is organizing an international yoga conference in Beljhundi, Dang, from October 11 to 13, to promote global peace, human welfare, and highlight Nepal as the birthplace of yoga and spirituality.
More than 5,000 yoga practitioners from 50 countries, including India and the United States, are expected to take part in the event, according to Prof. Dr. Sudhan Kumar Poudel, coordinator of the organizing committee and Executive Director of the Nepal Sanskrit University Research Center. The conference will be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Over the course of three days, participants will engage in large-scale yoga sessions involving around 1,000 people, and over 30 research papers will be presented by renowned national and international scholars, yoga practitioners, researchers, and spiritual thinkers on both classical and modern dimensions of yoga philosophy.
Coordinator Poudel stated that the festival seeks to revive and globalize Nepal’s yoga heritage, while also supporting Dang’s tourism promotion. International Coordinator Bholanath Yogi added that arrangements have been made for hospitality and management of participants from their arrival, including study tours of historical, cultural, and religious sites in Lumbini Province and other popular destinations.
Registrar Madhav Adhikari noted that the conference is also expected to promote academic practice and teaching of yoga at Nepal Sanskrit University.
The event is being jointly organized with partners such as the Patanjali Yoga Committee of Lumbini Province, Yoga University of America, Maharishi Vedic Foundation, Rotary Bangalore’s Global Yoga, and several other organizations. Various stalls and activities on yogic lifestyle, diet, Ayurvedic treatments, health camps, and blood donation drives will also be featured.
According to publicity coordinator Durga Lal K.C., the university has established a 13-member main organizing committee along with 21 sub-committees for the smooth execution of the festival.
