Manmohan University to Launch Technical Bachelor’s Program
Degrees Offered in Nepal

Manmohan Technical University, located in Budhiganga, Morang, is set to launch a Technical Bachelor (BTech) program in Civil Engineering.

Established by the Koshi Provincial Government, the university will run this technical bachelor’s program in partnership with the Swiss government for junior civil engineers who have passed the SEE and completed a three-year diploma.

For the first time in Nepal’s civil engineering sector, the university has signed a formal agreement with the Swiss government to conduct a Technical Bachelor’s program aligned with the National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) Level 6.

An official agreement to implement the BTech program was signed between Dr. Rekha Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering at the university, and Sanjay Karki, Country Director of Swisscontact. Following the agreement, the university is preparing to develop the curriculum and begin teaching, informed Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subashree Pokharel. According to Vice-Chancellor Pokharel, the partnership between the university and Swisscontact has been established under the Nepal Vocational Qualification System Project with the objective of strengthening Nepal’s technical and vocational education and training system.

As per the agreement with Swisscontact, Manmohan Technical University will develop a competency-based curriculum for junior engineers who have completed a three-year diploma. The curriculum will incorporate work-based learning, industry-linked modules, consultations with professional and industry councils, and competency standards aligned with the needs of Nepal’s infrastructure and construction sectors. Dean Dr. Shrestha stated that the program would play an important role in providing high-quality technical education required by the country’s youth.

Swisscontact Country Director Karki said that this collaboration with the technical university would prove to be a milestone in Nepal’s skills development sector. Currently, pre-diploma and diploma-level programs in Nepal are being conducted through the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). However, junior engineers who complete a three-year diploma after SEE have long faced uncertainty due to the lack of clear pathways for higher-level studies. The BTech program planned by Manmohan Technical University is expected to significantly support their professional advancement.
