KMC Tightens Food Hygiene Measures in Public Schools and Hospitals

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has introduced measures to tighten food hygiene in canteens operating at public schools and hospitals. 

Food Technical Officer at the KMC, Bharati Adhikari informed that the metropolis has advanced capacity development programmes for food entrepreneurs and joint monitoring to ensure food hygiene for consumers. 

According to the officer, a joint team comprising representatives from KMC, and the Food Technology and Quality Control Department is regularly monitoring canteens of public schools and hospitals. 

So far, monitoring has been carried out at the canteens and the kitchens preparing mid-day meal for students of Pashupati Mitra Secondary School Chabahil (Janaki Kitchen) and Shram National Secondary School Kumarigal, Shivapuri Secondary School Maharajgunj (Namo Food Code), Ratna Rajya School Baneshwor, KMC Hospital Sinamangal (Green Buds Bakery Cafe), Bharosa Hospital Baneshwor (Sudurpaschim Bhojanalaya and Khaja Ghar), among others, according to KMC. 

The KMC has provided training on food hygiene and nutrition to 45 people, including 23 meal nurses from public schools, to improve the quality of children's health, nutrition, and mid-day meal programmes.
