Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has enrolled 36,280 students, teachers, and staff into a unified digital attendance system, marking a significant step toward technology-enabled education in community schools.

As part of the initiative to make schools more tech-friendly, KMC’s Education Department, led by Chief Namraj Dhakal, registered students, teachers, facilitators at Early Childhood Development centers, support staff, and other employees from 83 schools into the integrated digital system.

The move follows instructions issued by Acting Chief Sunita Dangol on Magh 13 to implement an integrated electronic attendance system in schools. Subsequently, the Education and Information Technology departments began work to bring school communities onto the digital platform.

After training school staff in data entry, updates, and reporting, the schools themselves entered the relevant information into the system. The department reported that around 45,000 individuals, including teachers, staff, and students up to grade 10, have been recorded.

The department had decided that grants and fund disbursements to schools from Chaitra 1, 2082 (mid-March 2026) onwards would be based on verified attendance data and records from the system. During a meeting with principals of community schools on Falgun 13 and 14, officials emphasized that failure to properly implement the system would prevent the release of grant funds, urging schools to complete pending attendance entries immediately.

Infrastructure surveys are also underway to improve the physical facilities of schools, with an allocation of NPR 36 million in the current fiscal year. According to Chief Dhakal, master plans for four schools in the first phase and 11 schools in the second phase have been completed, while detailed project reports for 23 schools in the third phase are in preparation.

To prepare students for the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2082, six schools in the first phase and five in the second phase (a total of 11 schools) are conducting special preparatory classes led by subject experts and resource teachers. Other schools requesting additional classes will also receive support from the Education Department.

Furthermore, the department plans to complete the teacher-post alignment process by the end of Chaitra 2082 so that teachers can be assigned according to posts starting the new academic session from Baisakh 2083 (mid-April 2026).
