Education Minister Mahabir Pun Started Reforms

Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Mahabir Pun has announced three immediate reform initiatives and started to address long-standing issues within Nepal's education system. The directives, shared via a public statement, focus on improving computer education, streamlining university examination results, and enhancing the physical environment of Tribhuvan University.

The first directive makes it mandatory for all community secondary schools across the country to hire at least one dedicated computer teacher. The goal is to ensure students have access to essential computer literacy, a critical skill for modern education and employment.

The second initiative takes aim at the slow process of university result publication. Citing student hardship and an "irreparable loss of time," the ministry will now require all universities to publish their exam results within a maximum of three months. To enforce this, Minister Pun stated that government grants will be withheld from any university that fails to meet this deadline. He drew a parallel with the National Examination Board, which successfully manages to publish results for half a million Grade 12 students within the same timeframe, demonstrating that it is an achievable target.

Finally, in a step to beautify one of the nation's most prominent academic institutions, the ministry has directed the clearing of a large, overgrown area within the Tribhuvan University campus premises in Kirtipur. The plan is to transform this space into a visually appealing garden with a footpath, improving the campus environment without cutting down any large, existing trees.
