Civil Engineering Program Begins in Mugu District
Degrees Offered in Nepal

For the first time, civil engineering studies have officially commenced in the Mugu district of Karnali Province. Mahakali Model Secondary School has introduced the subject under the technical stream for Grades 9 to 12.

The program was inaugurated by Minister of Forests and Environment of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-11, Aain Bahadur Shahi, who formally launched the Grade 9 civil engineering program. According to school Principal Khadga Bahadur Rokaya, the institution, established in 2011, has started offering civil engineering for the first time this academic year. Of the school’s 833 total students, 55 have enrolled in the newly introduced technical stream this academic year.

Mayor Bishnu Kumar Bham of Chhayanath Rara Municipality stated that the initiative was supported through municipal funding to make technical education accessible. He announced an allocation of Rs. 3 million this fiscal year to purchase equipment for the technical school.

Minister Shahi described the launch of the technical stream at the district’s first school as a historic milestone. He emphasized that it provides a significant opportunity for rural students to get employment-oriented education in their own district. Akkalraj Kami of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-5 said his childhood dream of studying civil engineering had finally been realized, while Punimaya Karki of Khatyad Rural Municipality-5 shared that despite her family’s financial struggles, she has begun to pursue this program under technical education.

With this development, Mugu students no longer need to travel to Surkhet, Nepalgunj, Kathmandu, or even India to study civil engineering. They can now access quality, affordable technical education within their own district.
