Central Laboratory Service Launched at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences

The B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) has begun offering 24-hours laboratory testing services, enabling quicker and more efficient diagnostics for patients.

According to the institute’s spokesperson, Prof. Dr. Anju Pradhan, laboratory tests conducted using automated, semi-automated, and kit-based technologies will now deliver reports within two hours for patients receiving emergency and Emergency Health Services (EHS), and within three hours for outpatient and inpatient (OPD and IPD) services, calculated from the time the samples are received.

To implement this service, the institute has integrated its emergency and routine laboratories and officially commenced operations of a Central Laboratory from Poush 5. Previously, the emergency laboratory offered only limited tests, requiring separate sample submissions to different laboratories.

With the new arrangement, the institute has eliminated the dual sample submission process, streamlining laboratory operations. The move is expected to ensure timely and easier access to test reports during ward rounds, thereby supporting improved clinical decision-making.

BPKIHS has also confirmed that laboratory sample collection will be available 24 hours a day for patients under emergency, IPD, and EHS (OPD and IPD) services, further strengthening the institute’s healthcare delivery system.
