KMC to Host Policy Dialogue for Promoting Social Harmony, Solidarity, and an Inclusive Society

Kathmandu Model College is organizing a special policy dialogue to mark World Social Work Day 2026. The event is being held in collaboration with the Conflict, Peace, and Development Studies Department (CPDS) of Tribhuvan University.

Scheduled to take place on March 17, 2026 (Chaitra 3, 2082) from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the program is titled "Policy Dialogue for Promoting Social Harmony, Solidarity, and an Inclusive Society."

The event has received collaborative support from UWS Nepal, Child Nepal, Hamri Daju Bhai, Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal, and Yuwalaya.

Theme and Objective

Centered around this year's international theme for World Social Work Day, "Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society," the dialogue aims to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders. According to the organizers, the program will facilitate discussions on social harmony, inclusive development, social justice, and necessary policy reforms.

The event will feature policy dialogues, experience-sharing sessions, and interactive discussions among policymakers, social sector experts, civil society representatives, youth activists, and students.

Eminent Speakers and Panelists

Providing details about the program, Mr. Amrit Raj Shrestha, Head of the Social Work Department, confirmed the participation of distinguished personalities.

"The list of speakers includes renowned mountaineer and photojournalist Ms. Purnima Shrestha, newly elected House of Representatives members Ms. Basana Thapa and Mr. Dipak Kumar Shah, President of Ghaite Jenji Nepal Mr. Pratish Shrestha, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion expert Dr. Mina Poudel, and Chairperson of the National Action Coordination Group Mr. Ritu Bhattarai," he informed.

Kathmandu Model College Principal Mr. Surendra Subedi stated that the involvement of such experts and stakeholders will ensure a comprehensive and impactful discussion on the pressing social issues facing the nation.

Expected Outcomes

Chief of the Program,Mr. Alish Raj Rajopadhyaya, expressed optimism that the dialogue would strengthen policy initiatives aimed at promoting social harmony and inclusion. He noted that the discussions would thoroughly explore the challenges of social fragmentation and chart a path toward a more cohesive society.

Mr. Dhurba Prasad Timalsina, Chief of Internal Quality Assurance, revealed a key outcome of the program. "All ideas, suggestions, and conclusions drawn from the discussions will be compiled into a Policy Brief. This document will then be forwarded to the relevant authorities to contribute to the policy-making process," he said.

The event is expected to serve as a significant platform for meaningful dialogue among various organizations and experts working in the social sector.
