Currently, 2 institutions offer MBBS under Purbanchal University in Nepal with 2 of them offering in Morang district.

Purbanchal University is launching its MBBS program from 2025 AD. The MBBS program is a major step forward in Purbanchal University’s mission to improve the health status of marginalized communities, reduce morbidity, and produce competent, ethical, and socially responsible medical professionals.

Objectives of the MBBS Program

The MBBS program at Purbanchal University is designed to produce medical graduates who can:

  • Understand the structure and function of the human body in both health and disease.
  • Apply a holistic approach to the practice of modern medicine.
  • Diagnose and manage common health problems at individual and community levels.
  • Engage in continuous learning through research and evidence-based practice.
  • Utilize appropriate diagnostic technology and promote the rational use of drugs.
  • Deliver curative, preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative health services.
  • Identify limitations, refer patients when necessary, and manage life-threatening emergencies.
  • Maintain high ethical standards, treat patients with dignity, and respect cultural diversity.
  • Contribute to national and international health programs and disaster preparedness efforts.

Graduates of Purbanchal University’s MBBS program will be prepared to serve as:

Salient Features

Teaching–Learning Methods

The MBBS program at Purbanchal University adopts a blended approach combining theory, practice, and self-directed learning:

  • Interactive Lectures: Theory classes are conducted in an engaging, discussion-based format, with online or distance methods used when necessary.
  • Practical/Demonstrations/Clinical Postings: Students gain hands-on skills in labs, demonstrations, and clinical settings under faculty supervision, with occasional video-based demonstrations.
  • Problem-Based & Self-Directed Learning: Students work in small groups (about 10 members) for case-based learning, discussions, projects, and field postings, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Project Work: Undertaken during community medicine and research postings, individually or in groups, with faculty guidance.
  • Visits & Observations: Organized trips to hospitals and health institutions as per the curriculum.
  • Seminars & Journal Clubs: Students present assigned topics and participate in journal discussions to enhance academic exchange.

Eligibility

  • Must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology from a recognized educational institution and passed with a minimum of 50 percent or 2.4 CGPA in the proficiency certificate level or Grade 12 Science group.

or

  • Students from A-level or other similar programs with different grading systems should have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects and passed with a minimum of 50 percent or 2.4 CGPA.

or

  • Proficiency Certificate or Diploma in Health Science (General Medicine or Medical Lab Technology or Ophthalmic Science or Dental Science or Pharmacy or Radiography or Ayurveda or Physiotherapy) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and passed in Physics, Chemistry and Biology from the National Examination Board Must have obtained at least 50% or 2.4 CGPA marks and have obtained the equivalence of Grade 12th Science group and should be registered in the respective council.

Admission Criteria

Provisions for Admission Process

  1. In order to pass the integrated admission process, a minimum of 50 percentile should be obtained.
  2. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer and marks will be deducted at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

Candidates who have been successfully selected in the admission process will have to submit the following original and 1/1 photocopy of the following documents to the concerned educational institution at the time of admission.

  1. Certificate of qualification, Transcript and Character Certificate of 10+2 and SLC/SEE or Equivalent.
  2. Copy of Citizenship / Passport.
  3. Admit card of the Entrance Examination.
  4. Documents submitted for reservation.
  5. Certificate of Equivalence for the students with certificates from foreign institutions.

*Foreign candidates wishing to study in the vacated seat for foreign students must fill in the online application form mentioning the academic program of their choice within the time limit mentioned in this notice.
