Institutions offering MSS
Tribhuvan University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has launched Masters in Sports Science (MSS) program from the academic year 2018-2019.
Sports Science is a scientific study of physiology of sports and exercise. Students of the course can find employment as fitness instructor, sports teacher and coach, among others. The program will include subjects like biomechanics and scientific principles of games and sports, sports psychology, sports sociology, sports injuries and physiotherapy, track and field, sports management, sports pedagogy, sports medicine, sports journalism, sports tourism, among others.
Sports Science subject committee member Ganga Bahadur Magar said they had finalized a set of eight courses for the program — sports medicine, sports psychology, sports sociology and sports physiology. Most of the faculty members hold degrees from foreign universities.
This program offers both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of sports science. The entire course is highly participatory and students are expected to be actively engaged in presentation, participation in discussion and interaction in the class room activities, periodic seminars, workshops, fieldwork and internship.
Eligibility
Completion of Bachelor's Degree with at least second division or 2.0 CGPA in any discipline recognized by Tribhuvan University securing an acceptable level or ranking in the entrance exam will be required to get admission.
Job Prospects
The program prepares students for careers in various management professions in the sport industry including sports business, sports administration, sports marketing, sports communication, sports facilities, and sports entertainment.
Students will be prepared for management and leadership positions in sports organizations at the local, collegiate, and professional levels.
