Entrance Examination Module

  • Subjective Written Test (40 marks)

    The subjective written test for PhD includes an essay-type question aimed at assessing the understanding, expressive power, and disciplinary scholarship of the student shaped around the applicant's SOP (Statement of Purpose) or the abstract of the MPhil thesis. The time allocated for the written test is 1 and half hours.

Result of Entrance Test, and Admission

Based on the merit of evaluation criteria, the result of PhD entrance examination will be published by the Office of the Dean.

The successful candidates must be enrolled paying the necessary fees within the deadline. Enrolled students will receive notifications of provisional admission from the Office of the Dean.

Within one month of admission, students who have completed their graduate degree from a university other than FWU, must fill up and submit the university registration form (submission of migration certificate is mandatory for university registration).

Procedures for Direct PhD

A doctoral candidate at Far Western University is required to follow the following key steps during the research process:

  Prepare the reading list selecting materials pertinent to the study.
  Annotate all the selected materials in the reading list.
  Take the comprehensive test.
 IISuccessful candidates are permanently registered in the PhD program, and
 an advisor, and a co-advisor are assigned for each student.
  Write a synthesis paper, seminar paper, and proposal, and defend them.
  Publish at least one research article which can be based on the review or the seminar paper.
  Presentation of the synthesis paper, seminar paper, and proposal to Research Committee.
SecondIIIContinue writing the dissertation under the guidance of the advisor.
  Publish the first research article in a peer-reviewed journal.
 IVContinue writing the dissertation under the guidance of the advisor.
  Publish the second research article in a peer-reviewed journal.
Third year and onward Continue writing the dissertation under the guidance of the advisor.
  The dissertation submission process may start from the end of the third year 
from the beginning of the work.
  Evaluation of the submitted dissertation by experts.
  Necessary correction in the dissertation, and the viva voce evaluation by the 
Dean's office in the presence of the Research Committee, Doctoral Committee, 
and outside experts/evaluators.
  Award of the doctoral degree to successful candidates.

 

Eligibility

  • Those applicants with an MPhil degree in a relevant subject from any recognized university may apply for a PhD directly.

Admission Criteria

Required Documents:

Applicants applying for PhD Program will fulfill the following requirements of documents for the entrance test and admissions to the program:

  • Academic transcripts of undergraduate level, and onwards.

  • Statement of Purpose (SoP) stating motivation for coming to FWU, enrolling in its PhD Program, and career plans after completing the Program (500 words).

  • Writing Sample (a research paper) of 1000-1500 words.

  • Abstract of the MPhil Thesis (for PhD admission only).

  • Bank voucher of entrance fees of Rs 3,000 in favor of:

    • Account holder's name: FWU FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT.

    • Bank name: Nepal Bank Ltd., Mahendranagar Branch.

    • Account Number: 15600107122299000001.

  • Two letters of recommendation (for PhD admission only).

  • Other research/publication-related achievements.

Submission of a Personal Record File containing hard copies of all the above-mentioned documents at the time of the Personal Interview is compulsory.
