Rapti Academy of Health Sciences: School of Nursing

Ghorahi, Dang

Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (RAHS) is an autonomous institution dedicated to excellence in medical education and research. The Nepalese legislature unanimously endorsed the "Rapti Health Science Academy Bill 2074" on October 10, 2017. This bill was passed following the government's decision to establish one state-owned medical college in each province, with the aim of transforming Rapti Sub-regional Hospital into RAHS in Lumbini Province.

RAHS is situated on a picturesque 38 km² area along the banks of the Katuwa River, offering breathtaking views of the Mahabharat range. Ghorahi, located 413 kilometers west of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is home to several beautiful attractions, including Dharapani, the Ambikeshwori Temple, Purandhara Waterfall, and Barhakune Daha.

The Academy is conveniently accessible, as it is located near the Lamahi-Ghorahi highway. Ghorahi is approximately 24 kilometers from Dang Airport, which provides limited flights to Kathmandu. The nearest major airport is Nepalgunj Airport, located in the Banke district, approximately 147 kilometers away.

RAHS aims to provide technologically advanced medical services supported by a skilled workforce, excellent infrastructure, and a sophisticated hospital setup. This initiative marks a significant step toward expanding access to medical and diagnostic services for the community in this region. The institution is a major tertiary referral center that offers a variety of specialized health services, while also fostering academic and research innovations. In June 2023, RAHS launched academic programs, including the Bachelor of Nursing Science and BSc Nursing, and plans to introduce Postgraduate programs in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, General Practice, and Emergency Medicine, as well as Public Health.

RAHS serves a large population across Lumbini Province (including Dang, Rukum-East, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi, Kapilvastu, Banke, and Rupandehi districts) and Karnali Province (including Salyan and Rukum-West).
