Nepalgunj Nursing Campus

Nepalgunj Nursing Campus

Kohalpur, Banke

Nepalgunj Nursing Campus was established to develop self-reliant and devoted nurses who can cater to the modern healthcare system that is scarce at the national level.

ABOUT

The school of nursing was first established in Kathmandu in 1956 under the direction of the Health Service, Ministry of Health. The first batch of this school had enrolled only 15 students. The expected proficiency of the produced manpower was illness-oriented. Principally, this was a hospital-oriented curriculum that was in effect between 1956 and 1986. This curriculum aims to prepare nurses to effectively meet the health needs of the people of Nepal. With the introduction of the new educational system in 1972, nursing education was brought under the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University. After that, a major revised curriculum based on primary health care was introduced in 1987, and it was again updated in 2006. The aim of this programme was to prepare competent and self-reliant nurses who could care for individuals, families, and communities.

Nepalgunj Nursing Campus is the only constituent nursing campus of the Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine, located in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. The campus is located in Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan city (SMPC); ward no - 10, in close proximity with Bheri Hospital.

The Ministry of Health established the ANM training school in 1969 in Nepalgunj. The school, over a 17-year period, produced 406 ANMs. In 1987, it was upgraded to Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) nursing campus. Since then, it has produced 1153 staff nurses. Currently, 116 students are pursuing education at various levels.

Seeing the need for middle-level manpower in nursing, a 2-year Bachelor of Nursing (BN) programme was started in 2011, which was revised to a 3-year Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNS) from 2013. After the phase out of PCL Nursing, a 4-year B.Sc. Nursing was started in 2021.
