The Bachelor of Civil Engineering (BE Civil) program at NCIT, affiliated with Pokhara University, is designed to train students in the planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining of infrastructure in the natural and built environment. This four-year undergraduate degree (130 credit hours) equips graduates to work on roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, buildings, parks, and more, playing a key role especially in Nepal’s reconstruction and development.
Comprehensive and Industry-Relevant Curriculum
The curriculum at NCIT spans multiple fields of civil engineering, including transportation, structural, urban, water resource, geotechnical, and environmental engineering. Students receive both theoretical foundations and hands-on knowledge about materials, surveying, engineering geology, and other core subjects. The program follows the updated/new course structure effective from 2022 under Pokhara University.
Practical Learning Through Field Visits, Survey Camps, Internships
NCIT emphasizes experiential learning: the Civil Engineering Department organizes field visits, survey camps, and site visits, which are integral to its academic offering. For example, students conducted a field visit to the Guheshwori Waste Water Treatment Plant in Kathmandu, which helped them understand real-world sanitary engineering operations.
Seminars, Workshops, Labs, and Workshops for Exposure
NCIT’s civil engineering students benefit from seminars, trainings, and workshops that bring exposure to recent developments in the field. The department ensures students engage in seminars and trainings as part of their learning. Additionally, NCIT is endowed with state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching faculty to impart experimental skills.
Institutional Support & Infrastructure
The Civil Engineering Department has modern labs, experienced faculty and staff, and the infrastructure to support learning through elective courses, empirical experiments, and analytical work. NCIT also runs survey camps and field visits as established practices.
Entrepreneurial & Innovation Ecosystem
While more visible in NCIT’s overall offerings, there is an entrepreneurship ecosystem (like Nepal IT Incubator, NITI) that supports students’ ideas and innovation. Civil engineering students can potentially leverage this for project-based learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and startup thinking.
Career Opportunities Across Sectors
Graduates of BE Civil at NCIT are prepared for careers in public and private sectors—as consulting engineers, structural/design analysts, transportation planners, environmental engineers, quality controllers, and more. They are well suited for roles in infrastructure construction, water resource projects, urban development, and governmental or non-governmental organizations.
