Maharajgunj Nursing Campus, a pioneering nursing institution in Nepal, was established in 1956 AD as the School of Nursing under the Ministry of Health's Directorate of Health Services. Initially known as Mahabouddha Nursing Campus, it was renamed in 1985 (2042 BS) after relocating to a new building with assistance from the Japanese government. Celebrating its golden jubilee in 2006 (2063 BS), the campus has a rich history of over six decades and has become a beacon of excellence in nursing education.
Affiliated with the Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine, the campus has significantly expanded its academic offerings over the years. It introduced postgraduate level programs in 1994 (2051 BS) and a four-year B.Sc. Nursing program in 2005 (2062 BS). Furthering its commitment to advanced education, a Ph.D. in Nursing program was launched in 2011 (2068 BS) and has since awarded doctoral degrees to four students. In line with higher education policy, the Proficiency Certificate Level was phased out in 2015 (2072 BS).
The campus has made remarkable strides in developing its physical infrastructure, educational departments, and human resources, while implementing policy reforms and updating the curriculum in a timely manner. These advancements have attracted students from across the country who excel in the competitive entrance examinations. Maharajgunj Nursing Campus is actively working towards obtaining a quality assurance and accreditation certificate from the University Grants Commission, having already prepared a five-year strategy in accordance with a letter of intent.
