The Global Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Education (GATE College), located in Budhanilkantha-09, Mandikhatar, Kathmandu, is one of Nepal’s premier institutions in hospitality and tourism management. Established in May 2007, GATE has gained recognition as a forward-thinking and award-winning academy committed to developing future leaders in the world's most dynamic industry: tourism and hospitality.
As an extension college of Kathmandu University School of Management, GATE focuses on academic excellence, linking education and employment, and impactful research. With a clear vision to become one of the top five hotel management colleges in South Asia within the next five years, GATE prepares students to become capable professionals and change-makers in the global hospitality sector.
GATE was the first institution in Nepal to receive an international award at the World Hospitality Awards in Paris, winning Most Innovative Training Program in 2011 and becoming a finalist for Best Professional Success in 2015. The college has also received the National Food Safety Award from the Government of Nepal, reinforcing its commitment to academic quality, industry relevance, and professional standards.
International credibility is further strengthened through its certified membership in the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) network. EHL is consistently ranked as the world's top hospitality management school, with campuses in Switzerland and Singapore. Since 2021, GATE has been part of this exclusive network, allowing students in Nepal to access Swiss-standard hospitality education locally at a significantly reduced cost. Students also benefit from academic mobility across EHL campuses and certified member institutions worldwide.
GATE offers the Bachelor's in International Hospitality Management (BIHM), which is EHL-accredited and academically mapped to the Bachelor's degree of Tribhuvan University. This program provides full credit transfer opportunities within the Swiss Schools network and several other international universities. Student intakes are available in January or February and August or September.
Another major offering is the Bachelor in Professional Hospitality (BPH), affiliated with Kathmandu University. This program combines classroom learning with 3.5 years of practical experience, following both full-time and apprenticeship models. It blends modern hospitality practices with Nepal’s indigenous culture, food heritage, and traditions, preparing students for both local and global career paths.
GATE also offers vocational and professional programs, including the Diploma in Culinary Arts, Bakery Training, Cook Training, and Barista Courses. It offers the SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, a government-recognized qualification, in partnership with TAFE NSW (RTO 90003). Many of these programs are conducted in coordination with CTEVT Nepal, aligning with both national and international standards.
GATE believes that education should not be limited to the classroom. The college employs a range of instructional strategies, including edutainment, experiential learning, and collaborative approaches. This teaching philosophy supports the holistic development of students and prepares them for real-world challenges.
With over 9,000 alumni working in hospitality and related industries around the world, GATE continues to raise the benchmark for hospitality education in Nepal. Its award-winning programs, global partnerships, and commitment to innovation make it a trusted choice for students seeking meaningful and rewarding careers in the tourism and hospitality industries.
