The Government of Nepal allocates MBBS seats to foreign nationals who wish to study in Nepal. However, the number of seats available for foreign nationals in public medical colleges is very limited, as the government reserves most seats as scholarships for Nepalese citizens. Private medical colleges are permitted to reserve 33% to 50% of their total enrollment capacity for foreign applicants.

In 2025, the Medical Education Commission, a regulatory body under the Government of Nepal, fixed an annual intake of 749 MBBS seats for foreign students. Of these, academies such as PAHS, KAHS, and BPKIHS received 36 seats, while TU-affiliated colleges were allocated 236 seats. KU-affiliated colleges received the highest number of seats, i.e. 473 seats, for enrolling foreign graduates in the MBBS program. Purbanchal University is commencing its MBBS program for the first time from Purbanchal University School of Health Sciences and it has got approval to enroll four students in its MBBS program.
