Kathmandu University Publishes Schedule for Entrance Test of LL.M/MEIL Programs

Kathmandu University, School of Law (KUSOL) at Dhulikhel, has published an entrance exam notice for admissions to the following 2-year postgraduate law programs:

Written Text Time: 10:00 AM

Interview Time: 12:30 PM onwards

Important Instructions:

The written test will be based on the prescribed readings and will last one and half-hour.
The written test will be followed by a personal interview of approximately 15 minutes per candidate.
Applicants are allowed to bring a printout of the prescribed readings to the entrance hall.
Use of electronic gadgets or any other reading materials apart from the printed readings is strictly prohibited.

Interview: 30%

About the Programs

The programs aim to produce energy and infrastructure law specialists with advanced professional knowledge and academic research skills through flexible yet rigorous full-time study at KUSOL in Dhulikhel and KUSOM in Lalitpur.

The courses offered in these programs, the first of their kind in Nepal, are designed for experienced graduates seeking advanced study and research opportunities on legal and regulatory issues related to energy and infrastructure projects, including hydro-power, highways, railways, tunnels, airports, industrial estates, foreign direct investments, infrastructure and construction contracts, and project finance.

The LL.M./MEIL program has two main objectives:

To train students with sophisticated legal skills and knowledge that significantly improve the way they serve their clients or organizations, helping them be recognized as experts in their field, and
To enable them to conduct high-quality academic legal research projects in energy and infrastructure law and produce original research work in the form of a dissertation that can be published in a peer-reviewed law journal. To achieve these twin objectives, equal emphasis has been placed on coursework and dissertations.

Eligibility for Admission:

Nepali and non-Nepali nationals with a Bachelor's degree in Law, Engineering, Business Management/Administration, and Economics with a minimum of 50 percent aggregate or CGPA 2.0 out of 4.0 from universities/boards recognized by Kathmandu University with relevant work experience may apply.

Law graduates will qualify for the LL.M. degree and non-law graduates will qualify for the MEIL degree.

The MEIL degree is a Master's degree in social sciences and will not in itself qualify the graduates for Bar examinations or for legal practice.

Application Process:

Aspiring candidates must complete the online application form on the KUSOL website (https://sol.ku.edu.np/).

Applicants must deposit an application fee of NRs. 2500/- (non-refundable and non-transferable) to Nabil Bank Limited A/C no. 04201017500994.
Within the deadline, submit copies of academic certificates/transcripts, a list of publications (if any), a statement of research interests, citizenship, and photographs as mentioned in the application form.

Deadline for submission of application form: April 11, 2025 (Friday).

The selection of candidates for admission to the said programs will be based on a written test and/or personal interview of the applicants.
